Was your bank account closed for an unknown reason? This is often a consequence of strict anti-money laundering legislation.
Banks are increasingly showing their clients the door on the basis of preventive anti-money laundering legislation without providing an explanation. Following the FinCEN files, where some banks are accused of having failed to comply with anti-money laundering legislation in the past, there are calls in the media to further tighten current anti-money laundering legislation.
Mr Stijn De Meulenaer calls on the legislator, in the event of an amendment to the anti-money laundering legislation, to also consider the cases where bank clients are wrongly shown the door. Clients who have completed a correct tax regularisation or clients who – despite their efforts – are still shown the door because they represent a statistical risk, should have the opportunity to be heard.
