New digital (anti)fraud webinars

2020 was the year the world stood still for a moment. Covid 19 made us realise, both privately and professionally, how fragile we are as human beings or organisations. But also how agile. Meetings are now held digitally, and under the motto “never waste a good crisis”, new opportunities are even emerging here and there.

From this perspective, the (anti)fraud department of Everest law firm is launching a new product in the form of client-oriented “(anti)fraud webinars”.

Why? Because organisations must, today more than ever, continue to arm themselves against fraud. After all, Covid 19 has also created new opportunities for fraudsters (read our blog about this here).

How? Obviously not in the classic way, where we provide a seminar in a small room, but digitally, by means of custom (anti)fraud webinars, in which we explain those aspects of combating fraud that occupy your organisation today.

A selection of our (anti)fraud webinars

1. Tips & tricks for fraud investigation by internal and external auditors

For whom?

Everest (anti)fraud has built up practical and academic experience in guiding internal and external auditors who come into contact with fraud files. In addition, this (anti)fraud webinar is also aimed at company directors who want to know how they can legally organise themselves preventively to monitor their employees in the event of suspected fraud.

In recent years, we have assisted several banks in the development and perfection of their own fraud departments, and drafted various fraud policies that provide companies with a workable framework to combat internal fraud within legal boundaries. Mr Stijn De Meulenaer has also been teaching this subject for more than 15 years as an executive Professor in the Masterclass Fraud Auditing (MCFA).

What?

Depending on your needs and based on your specific input, we will examine what concrete measures you, as an internal or external (fraud) auditor or company, can take to combat corporate fraud:

  • where do your investigative possibilities end and where does privacy protection begin?
  • what means do I have to push this boundary and carry out more investigation?
  • can I investigate an employee’s desk?
  • am I allowed to use cameras?
  • am I allowed to monitor email and internet traffic?
  • can I use information on social media as evidence?
  • am I allowed to interview an employee?
  • am I allowed to interview a third party?

…

How?

By means of an (anti)fraud webinar, we transfer our knowledge to you. We gladly make our (anti)fraud webinar as concrete as possible based on the input and questions we receive from you in advance. At the end of our webinar, we will be happy to explain what optimisations are still possible within your company.

2. How do I prevent the bank from closing my account?

For whom?

Everest (anti)fraud regularly guides companies that are questioned by the compliance department of their bank or are even threatened with being shown the door. This training is aimed at (professional associations of) entrepreneurs active in fraud-sensitive sectors, or sectors involving a lot of cash.

What?

European and consequent Belgian anti-money laundering legislation are becoming increasingly strict, and apply to more and more sectors. Moreover, banks are increasingly strict in their compliance departments’ monitoring of the application of this legislation, and constantly screen their bank clients.

In this (anti)fraud webinar, depending on your needs and your concrete input, we will familiarise you with the preventive anti-money laundering obligations that apply to your company or sector:

  • what are the anti-money laundering obligations applicable to me (my sector)?
  • how do I deal with this in practice?
  • how do I relate to my banker?
  • how do I answer my banker’s questions?
  • what can I do when my bank account has been closed?
  • what consequences do I face afterwards?

How?

By means of a webinar, we transfer our knowledge to you. We gladly make our (anti)fraud webinar as concrete as possible based on the input and questions we receive from you in advance. At the end of our webinar, we will be happy to explain how an anti-money laundering audit can help you demonstrate to the bank that you are indeed complying with the rules.

3. Money laundering for sports clubs and agents

For whom?

This training aims to familiarise sports clubs and agents with the new anti-money laundering obligations that await them.

What?

Everest (anti)fraud and Everest Sport have developed extensive experience in sports fraud files in recent years. For example, we assist the Pro League as a civil party in Operation Propere Handen, as well as the Tennis Integrity Unit in an international bribery scandal in the tennis competition. These scandals have ensured that the football sector will also be subject to anti-money laundering legislation in 2021 (read more about this in our blog).

During this (anti)fraud webinar, we explain:

  • what the consequences are of the extension of anti-money laundering legislation to the sports world
  • who exactly will be subject to the new law
  • how this will work in practice
  • what the position of the supervisory authorities (CTIF and FPS Economy) is
  • what you can do preventively to be in order

How?

By means of a webinar, we transfer our knowledge to you. We gladly make our (anti)fraud webinar as concrete as possible based on the input and questions we receive from you in advance. At the end of our webinar, we will be happy to explain how you, as a club or agent, can best prepare in concrete terms for the new anti-money laundering legislation.
